Hi all,
I've had a lot of issues trying to install Linux on a MacBook Pro, 17 Inch, Early 2009. I installed Ubuntu using a netinstall, in pure text mode, and this worked fine. I have rEFInd on the machine, and when booting it finds the installed Unbuntu kernel, and if asks attempts to boot it.
What then happens is always the same: Somewhere during the boot the display suddenly dims somewhat, two little purple rectangles (about the size of 2x2character appear near the top and the system hangs. The last item shown is that swap is being enabled.
I get exactly the same if I try t boot a live CD or DVD.
Why is this? Is something wrong with my macbook? It still boots MacOSX fine.
How do I fix this?
