I got lubuntu 14.04 to run on my old Powermac G4 533 Digital Audio with a 17" Apple Studio Display CRT (ADC) it has a nvidia MX 2 videocard.
Configuring the video was the main headache but now I have crystal clear display in the following resolutions:
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1056 x 792, maximum 4096 x 4096
VGA-1 connected 1056x792+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm
1600x1200_65.00 64.0
1280x1024_75.00 75.0
1056x792_96.00 96.0*
1024x768_99.00 99.0
832x624_120.00 120.0
800x600_124.00 124.0
640x480_153.00 153.0
I had to add the following command to yaboot.conf to force the video on: append="quiet video=VGA-1:e" and create a xorg.conf file with modelines for this monitor.
And it's possible to boot the newworld macs like this one from a usb just burn your iso to USB with dd on a linux machine. Hold down the alt (option) key and turn on the mac. Wait until you get a list of icons of bootable drives, select the USB disk and click the arrow on the screen.
