unity 3d not working

After installation/update of some new packages, and the reboot, I could only boot ubuntu in unity 2d. From the terminal:

XXXX@XXXX~$ /usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test -p
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0".
Error: GLX is not available on the system

So obviously something is missing, but I am not really sure how to proceed from here. It worked fine before the update.
