Folks:
A flavor of Ubuntu with MATE DE is available spun for PPC . . . the more PPC people that can test it out, the better.
http://1drv.ms/1wgsdUk Is the link to the Onedrive site, in my newly installed MATE system on my iBook G4 the link would not load, complaining about my browser, etc. Otherwise, MATE is a great DE, might be pushing the envelope with my raging 540MB RAM, but it's worth it to see the GNOME Floating Feet screensaver. I added the radeon mods suggested on the knownissues page to the yaboot.config file, and configured an xorg.conf file--both of which I did in the Lu 14.04 install. Added the "b43" firmware for wifi. Had some issues with freezing during the install, possibly because I have dual boot OSX, seems to be OK now--one remaining problem left over from base 14.04 is the issue(s) with failing to revive from suspend, and here in MATE, no "hibernate" . . . and some glitches around logging out and/or suspend, requiring a shut down. Minor details. And, sure, no sound . . . not so much of a concern for me as the "revive" or "drop into suspend" . . . . Oh, uh, the fan seems to be blowing for even minor "thoughts" . . . or any "thought-gathering" process that the processor tries to gather "steam" for . . . . : - )
Enjoy,
