Hi cool people!
I have installed Ubuntu 16.04 on a USB 3 pendrive on my mac book air (this model). Just a normal installation procedure, targeting the USB 3 drive. It works like a charm (kind of). When I turn on the computer, with the pendrive inserted, I am greeted by GRUB that lets me boot into Ubuntu. If I want to boot into Mac OS I just hold the alt key, then I can select the internal drive to boot.
Just a little quirky problem. Usually, when I turn on the computer, the Ubuntu boot sequence fails. GRUB is not displayed correctly (just a purple screen) and after a while I am dropped to the initramfs console. If I hard shut down the laptop (pressing the power button) and then turn on again the boot sequence will work correctly, but it won't if I reboot through the initramfs console. Pretty weird uh? I have the feeling it is due to the pendrive powering up. What do you think guys? Did you see this before?
