G4 MDD Dual 1Ghz Radeon AGPx4. I managed to install Ubuntu 12.04, Lubuntu 14.04, and Debian Wheezy. That was after failing with Ubuntu 16.04LTS, 16.10 Yaketty Yak, Debian 8.6, Mate 14.04, Lubuntu 16.04 and16.10 and 17, all boot and freeze after arriving at the Desktop, that includes the Alternative and the Live CD images, I have read all about the bugs surrounding KMS and so tried every possible yaboot configuraton which had no benefit re the freeze.

Ubuntu 12.04 is too dated and slows down to a crawl and overheats, Lubuntu 14.04 is usable but the bungy style delay on window movements is the reason I tried Wheezy 7.9 which is running very nicely.

Now I have a DVD collection failed boot DVDs and CDs.

I am on my fourth PSU an ATX conversion. Two Apple Samsung PSU was a disaster and wish I'd kept the original AC-BEL weas the original issue with this machine.

I run the PSU outside the case to save on the overheating, but still find the CPU runs at 55oC, Could that mean I need to replace the thermal grease after fourteen years or is it not worth the trouble?

Running OSX 10.4.11 CHUD tools really cools the hardware, running 10.5.8 it heats up without CHUD to the same 55oC but when I activate CHUD tools it comes back down to 35-36o but heats back up to 55oC when I download .iso files (big ones).

Would it be worth replacing the Thermal Grease?
