[PPC] PowerPC main packages brings 404 error in 16.04 Ubun-MATE PPC?

Folks:

A while back I tried to follow the basic instruction from the U-MATE forum on upgrading the MATE DE from what was 1.14 to the latest 1.16 version . . . simply adding the "dev" ppa and then updating/upgrading via Terminal . . . seemed pretty "easy" . . . . But, when I ran it I saw a "404" error on a PowerPC packages source during the update . . . I blithely continued with the upgrade . . . and, on reboot . . . MATE session was gone. I've tried a few things, went thru the XFCE session I still had to use synaptic to try to upgrade that way . . . various mate packages were showing as having been upgraded to 1.16, others were still 1.14 . . . . Numerous attempts have failed to revive MATE, I also tried to roll back to 1.14 by removing the "dev" ppa , , , that also failed. And in synaptic I tried to install "ubuntu-mate-desktop" . . . to see if that would work, but, it error-ed out immediately . . . showing it as "broken" due to numerous dependency problems . . . . But, also in synaptic it doesn't list any "broken packages" . . . as far as it can see.

Base install is the U-MATE 16.04 PPC, the XFCE session is working, but, I do like MATE . . . I thought that support for LTS PPC was continuing for another few years, but, it seems like some PowerPC port is "broken" and it seems to be trickling down to breaking my MATE session . . . . I posted my issues on the U-MATE thread and got a reply that didn't really work . . . another poster added his PPC experience with the caveat to "don't do this if you are on PPC it will bork your system . . ." . . . so there are at least two of us with "borked" systems . . . . Anybody have any insights on what might be happening with this PPC port in the repos?

Interestingly, I have an iBook running Lubuntu 16.04 and I ran the update/upgrade via Terminal, very short sources list . . . no errors, no fouls . . . no problems. I took a screen shot of the error if that would help out . . . I'd like to be able to get the MATE session back . . . .

e.e.p.
