[all variants] Move system (Mac+Ubuntu) onto a new hard drive?

Hi

I've been using Kubuntu on a Macbook which has an original HD of about 120 GB. I have about 80 GB dedicated to Kubuntu (which I use 99% of the time), and the other 40 GB for swap and Mac OS.

The dual boot is guaranteed by the veri nice rEFIT

Anyway, I'm thinking about replacing the current HD with a larger one (maybe 500 GB), and would like some advice on the best way to do it.

Should I:

- make a backup of my current (K)Ubuntu system, store it temporarily in some place (like an external HD), make a clean install of the two systems+rEfit on the new HD and then restore Kubuntu from the backup?

Or is there a nore efficient way of replacing the hd without loosing files, apps and app settings?

Thank you!
