Hey everyone! Interesting issue here.
-Running Lubuntu 12.04 on g3 imac with airport classic card. The firmware on my airport card is 8.7.
I ran 'dmesg | grep airport' and the last line says wpa-psk2 is supported
-Have a Motorola Droid RAZR M broadcasting a wifi hotspot. I can choose open network or wpa-psk2 security.
-With the network open, i cannot see it on my radio.
-With wpa-psk2 enabled, i can see the network, but it is shaded out so i cannot click it. When i create a new network and enter in all the info i can.. (verizon and motorola are able to tell me nothing more than their stupid help pages)
-It asks me for the network password which i gladly type in, and it gives me a tooltip balloon that says "connecting to 'droid'" but then just stops and 'no network connection'.
I am thinking that net manager default in lubuntu is not allowing the most in-depth setup. Should i try WICD for better in depth advanced options?
Another option i have is USB tetheing. However these macs only have usb 1.1 so i think that will be slow, but it's better than nothing right now.
I have another g3 with OSX 10.4 that i may be able to update the sirport card firmware. If i do that will i have to update drivers in linux or will they update automatically on boot?
