[ubuntu] How to run Dual Monitors on 2008 Macbook Pro?

I am trying to get a second monitor to connect to my 2008 Macbook Pro laptop running ubuntu. I have gone into the nvidia-settings and chosen to run the second monitor as a separate x-server and after a reboot can get it to display simply as a white screen where the cursor is a black x.

I am using Nvidia driver version 295.49 if that is any help.

I also notice that in the general Ubuntu Displays, I have yet to see the extra monitor detected.
