[ubuntu] Nvidia drivers on Macbook Pro 5,5 cause trackpad and keyboard to lag

Hi All,

I posted this earlier today in the general forum, but maybe it's more of a mac-specific problem so I'm re-posting here:

A few days ago I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my Macbook Pro (mid-2009, 5,5). My problem is that I can't install the Nvidia accelerated graphics driver without my touchpad and keyboard becoming extremely laggy to the point where they are unusable. It's fine for about 5-10 minutes after boot up and then it seems as if at random the mouse and keyboard will suddenly become really unresponsive and slow. They'll stay that way until I reboot and then the same thing happens again after several minutes. The computer otherwise runs at normal speed. I can watch videos, for example. I just can't type or use the mouse cursor without them being really laggy.

I've tried the recommended Nvidia driver in the Additional Drivers menu, as well as several of the other Nvidia drivers listed, all have the same problem. When I remove the driver and revert to the generic nouveau driver, the problem disappears, however this creates problems of its own: scrambled splash screen, system freeze on suspend, etc.

Has anyone else encountered this problem or does anyone know a solution to it?

Sincerely,
D
