Ubuntu on MacBook Air

Hi!
I've got a mid 2013 Macbook Air and I installed Ubuntu 14.10 on it, on a separate partition, with ReFind.
It's ok, everything that should work it's working.
Just a question.
I also have Mac OS X Yosemite installed on the first partition, and I often use it for some stuff. I've noticed that the graphics are different on the two systems. On Mac OS X Yosemite everything seems more well-defined, the resolution seems to be higher, but it's not true. The resolution (1440x900) it's the same on the two system.
So, why for example the web pages are more readable on Mac OS X and the screen seems bigger and more defined on it?
What does cause it?

Thanks for the answers, and excuse my bad English.:p
