[ubuntu] Installing Ubuntu on Macbook 2008 4,1

Hi,

I have probably repeated,re-do the installation of Ubuntu 18.04 on my 2008 MacBook Black 4,1 at least 10 time. The most successful installation is when I did a single OS into the machine, and faced with this
[drm:drm_atomic_helper_commit_cleanup_done [drm_kms_helper]] *ERROR* [CRTC:26:pipe A] flip_done timed out]

May I know what is this error?

However if I would to do a dual-boot, partition correctly (Intended for Ubuntu to be format to exfat/fat32), I don't see much success. Upon installation, when boot into OS X (via Grub), my OSX would be corrupted

Does anyone has seen success for installation on MacBook 2008?

Appreciate all comments and feedback.

Thanks.

[ubuntu] trouble installing a Ubuntu on PowerPC iMac 1.8GHz

Hi Everyone.
I'm having trouble getting a Ubuntu version running on my iMac (PowerPC, iSight, 1.8GHz processor).
I had been running Leopard.
Then I--somehow, probably because I was going from the macOS--did manage to install Lubuntu.
It seems to run, somewhat, but can't connect to internet via ethernet or wifi.
Have tried Precise Pangolin.
Also another Ubuntu 64-bit for PPC.
Tried installing them via DVD-R and flashdrive, to no avail.
With the DVD I tried holding down the C key as well as the command+apple+shift+delete keys.

Holding the C key down did get me to a yaboot prompt command
telling me to press C to boot from "CD ROM",
but it never did--though it seemed to be trying to.
The prompt also said I could press 1 to boot to some Linux GNU thing...I forget the exact wording.

Anyhow: I'm fearing :( I will need to educate myself about things Yaboot and Open Firmware.
Any thoughts would be appreciated....

[ubuntu] Ubuntu on iMac7,1: Radeon screen corruption after resume

Hi all,

I'm currently running 18.04.2 on an iMac Mid 2007 (imac7,1) with ATI Radeon video card. I've upgraded to SSD and 6 GB RAM (4+2).

All is working fine, with exception of suspend/resume: when resuming from suspend, the screen is corrupted, bleached.

Any ideas on how to solve this?

Regards,

Jose.

[ubuntu] Cannot connect to mesh WiFi network

Hello,

I've installed Ubuntu 18.04 with 4.20 kernel on a MacBook Pro TouchBar 2016 (13,3). The WiFi card has automatically been picked up and drivers installed. I have been able to connect to an iPhone hotspot, but not to my home Mesh network (Tenda MW3). It's recognised but for some reason won't connect and keeps asking for the password. I've attempted to update the firmware as per the Broadcom guide, but to no avail.

The output of the wireless helper script is here: http://paste.ubuntu.com/p/kh2yK4xwKK/

Any help much appreciated!

[ubuntu] boot ubuntu from SD card

Can I make a SD card boot for session Ubuntu? My mac air has a SD slot and I dont need it for anything else. It would be a less obtrusive method to have a permanent Ubuntu on the laptop. If so would I want a high speed card??? What model SD card would be best?
I tried Virtual Box and didnt like it.

Which MacBook Air is best choice for Ubuntu?

Hello everyone !

I’m a new Ubuntu user having it installed on an VM on my MacBook Pro 13 mid 2012. It works quite well, although I’m not sure it is a good way to learn Linux. I’d rather prefer to have it installed on a separate laptop. As a big fan of Apple I’m trying to figure out which model of used MacBook Air I should get to be 100% sure that all components and ports work either out of the box, or with a tested solution. This applies to the latest version of Ubuntu (18 if I’m correct). I also like using my Apple Thunderbolt Display and need it to work with my Ubuntu laptop.

I checked this website and it turned out there is a lot of information regarding compatibility of Mac laptops with older versions of Ubuntu.

I would appreciate if someone could share experience and give me advice if what I want is something that could be done.

Thank you.

Broken Boot Partition for Mac OS

$

Hello, I need some help as I accidentally broke the boot partition of my macbook air 11” while trying to erase my ubuntu partition and extend the mac partition. I did this by booting ubuntu from a USB and using the “Disks” program to erase the root partition and the swap area and combine the two together. Then, stupidly, I decided to extend the Mac OS X partition usinng that program and not Disk Utility and as a result when I boot, if I enter target disk mode Mac OS no longer appears and only two partitions labelled “windows” and “windows” appear from Ubuntu. If I choose the first it’ll attempt to boot something but remain stuck on the first line flashing with no text while the second partition will simply freeze and hang.

Can anyone help me? I want to avoid having to erase my disk as there was a whole bunch of important stuff on the Mac Partition. If I’m guessing correctly it isn’t “broken” so to speak, but the bootloader no longer sees it. Would there be any way to correct that?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Ardour: unable to create port: failed constructor

Hi all,

I'm running Ardour 5.12 on apple computers. On both a 2010 MacPro desktop and a 2011 iMac, Ardour throws an "unable to create port: failed constructor' error. Does anyone else see that? I'm working with the Ardour developers to figure out what is going on. I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen this and, more importantly, found a fix for it.

Select CD ROM Boot Type (again) Mac frustration

I cannot get beyond this stage.... I have tried the 'holding down 1 and pressing enter at different black screens' trick - I have tried different keyboards and several different vintages of Mac Mini (mainly the white-top ones with four USB ports). I don't have any problems with new aluminium Mac Minis

I can get the '1' or the '2' to appear but cannot 'enter' the choice before the keyboard hangs up. As I say I've tried Mac keyboards and PC keyboards.

I have tried a new 14.04 and a new 18.04 .iso burn on DVD-R and also a Canonical-bought DVD 14.4. I have also tried USB sticks and external USB HDs flashed by Balena Etcher - these are not recognised as startup discs at EFI at all

I have about 20 Mac Minis I can try - all waiting for a good purpose.

Anyone help?

[ubuntu] Macbook Pro 7.1 - Ubuntu 18.04 LTS - Linux rookie - Cant get wifi to work

Laptop: Macbook Pro 7.1 (bought in European market) On Ubuntu 18.04 upgraded from 14.04 - 16.04 - 18.04

Wifi persistently does not work.

There is no option for Broadcom STA driver in "additional drivers" section.

Have done some cycling through Wifi drivers and blacklisting to no avail.
Possible I might have misses a combination that works. Can't be sure.

As suggested on other similar topics I have run "Wireless script" from signature of wildmanne39.
output is: http://paste.ubuntu.com/p/2kRrwjy7Hp/

No idea if it helps. (as I am for the most part a newbie) but:
Only connectivity related item result via "lspci"is:
03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Inc. and subsidiaries NetXtreme BCM5764M Gigabit Ethernet PCIe (rev 10)

"sudo dmidecode" paste here if it helps: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/CZDZvfc2j9/

I am connected to the internet this instance on the laptop via USB tethering from a phone.
I can also confirm that Bluetooth tethering also works <- not sure if that helps...

and "rfkill list" shows nothing blocked.

I would appreciate some help getting wifi to work.
Thanks

(My first post here ever. if I did something wrong/"break guideline" notify me and I will correct it to the best of my ability)

[ubuntu] format

Mac Air 2017 Mojave
I loaded the ubuntu iso on a SD card that was formatted by Mac disk utility to FAT. But their FAT is FAT12. It boots fine but when ever I turn on the Mac I get
a pop up that says " inserted disc is not recognized" There is an option to ignore so its not a big deal and it does work as a boot device for live sessions..
but I dont like the pop up. I was wondering if I change the format and reload the iso if I could get rid of it.
The disk utility in Mac OS only has choices to format of MacOS journaled,Fat 12,ExFat. Which ones in order would you use. ??? I might be able to find another Mac
app that offers more format options, like Gparted does in Linux, I will look around.
What format would you use ???

I installed Ubuntu just recently on my Mac. Problem happened when I was watching Youtube in it and then suddenly the OS froze except the cursor. I couldn't select anything so I force rebooted. Unto the GRUB. So I selected [Ubuntu] and to find out that it booted to a black screen. I tried putting nomodeset on 'e' but nothing happened. Tried to boot to recovery nothing happened as seen here in my video.

  • NVIDIA GeForce 9400M

I already installed NVIDIA driver if that helps.
